Open Source Landscape

Open Source landscape Open Source software is about more than just free (as in beer) software. Far from being altruism, there are direct and indirect benefits to getting involved in projects directly. Whether the contribution is as minimal as tracking a mailing list or as large as contributing actual code, it can make an enormous difference.

According to Colm MacCarthaigh, recorded LIVE at the IOTC 2008, by treating Open Source as a community you can let others maintain your code, get advance warning of security issues, and have your bugs prioritised.
